I Can See The End

Written November 2016

I can see the end

A flash of brilliant light, the sound of beating wings, feathers in the corner of my eye.

I can see the end.

Warmth, mother’s arms, children laugh, such joy.

I can see the end.

A playground, hopscotch, nursery rhymes, the bell.

I can see the end.

Desks, tests, angst.

I can see the end.

Books, libraries, that smell.

I can see the end.

A hand, his eyes, Oh god can I just stay here a little longer? First kiss, first fight, the snoring, the smiles.

I can see the end.

Screams, blood, creation. We did that. We made something.

I can see the end.

A wedding, that awful hat, my baby, now his baby.

I can see the end.

Autumn leaves, hospital beds, please, please don't make me remember this.

I can see the end.

A flash of brilliant light, the sound of beating wings, features in the corner of my eye… and you. My darling, is it really you?

I can see the end.

I am ready to begin again.
